Sun Damage Treatment and Skin Repair at Skulptd in Merrick

Sun Damage: The Souvenir Nobody Asks For

Long Island summers are made for the outdoors. Beach days, boat afternoons, dinners that stretch long past sunset. But somewhere around late August, a lot of us start noticing the receipts: a few new dark spots, skin that looks a little duller, fine lines that seem to have deepened while we weren’t paying attention.

That’s sun damage, and here’s the part worth sitting with for a second, because it reframes everything about why prevention and repair matter so much.

Just How Much Does the Sun Age Your Skin?

More than almost anything else you do. Up to 90% of visible skin aging is caused by UV damage, a process known as photoaging, and research has attributed 80 to 90% of facial aging to UV radiation. Read that again. The wrinkles, spots, and loss of firmness we tend to chalk up to “getting older” are, overwhelmingly, the sun’s handiwork. basksuncare

Which is actually encouraging, because it means so much of how your skin ages is within your influence.

What the Sun Is Doing Down There

The damage happens deeper than the surface tan you can see. Your skin’s structure is mostly collagen. Ninety-five percent of the dermis, the underlying layer of skin, is made of collagen, and the most likely cause of visible wrinkling from photoaging is the breakdown of that collagen. umich

Here’s the mechanism, and it’s a good one to know. Ultraviolet radiation triggers a molecular chain reaction that produces enzymes called matrix metalloproteinases, which break apart and degrade collagen, and while skin can repair the damage, those repairs are never perfect. Over years of summers, those imperfect repairs accumulate. Worse, it doesn’t take much. Even a single exposure to UV increases the enzymes that degrade skin collagen. umichnejm

The two culprits divide the labor. UVA rays penetrate deep and break down collagen and elastin, leading to wrinkles and sagging, and they’re present year-round, even on cloudy days, while UVB affects the surface and causes sunburn and DNA damage. That year-round part is exactly why sunscreen isn’t just a July thing. basksuncare

The Good News About Skin Repair and Sun Damage Treatment

Photoaging accumulates, but it isn’t a locked door. The same collagen-building machinery the sun disrupts can be encouraged to rebuild, and that’s the whole premise behind professional sun-damage repair. With the right treatments, you can fade pigment, resurface rough texture, and prompt fresh collagen so skin looks clearer and firmer.

How Skulptd Treats Sun Damaged Skin in Merrick

At our Merrick skin clinic, we tailor sun-damage repair to what your skin actually needs after a season in the sun.

For comprehensive rejuvenation, the Fotona 4D laser facelift works across multiple layers to firm, smooth, and refresh without surgery. When pigment and rough texture are the main concern, laser skin resurfacing targets discoloration and resurfaces the skin to even out tone and texture.

And for a gentler reset, our anti-aging facial helps brighten, hydrate, and support long-term skin health, an easy way to undo some of summer’s dullness and get back on track.

Sun Damage Repair, Then Protect Your Skin

One honest note: repair works best hand in hand with protection. There’s little sense in fading sun damage only to redo it next weekend, so daily SPF is the non-negotiable that protects everything we build together. Treat the damage, then defend the results, and your skin stays ahead of the curve.

Undo Summer Sun Damage, Beautifully

If this summer left more of a mark than you’d like, autumn is the perfect time to hit reset. We help clients across Merrick and Long Island repair sun damage and restore a clearer, firmer look. Book a consultation with Skulptd and let’s refresh your skin.
